Learning should be fun, engaging, and interesting for our children.
Don’t get me wrong, worksheets and textbooks are helpful ways to gain knowledge, but with VISUAL stimulation (such as a captivating show) it can really take a child’s knowledge to new heights!
Whose to say we can’t have a blast while learning a new subject, am I right?
What’s great about educational TV shows, movies, and FREE entertainment you can find on YouTube for your child is they can watch and re watch it as many times as they’d like. Repetition is KEY to learning.
Did us parents just strike gold? I think so. 🙂
I am a firm believer educational shows are a wonderful learning tool we can expose our child to.
My intention throughout this post to provide you the 12 BEST educational TV shows for kids on the market today and hopefully at the end you will find a show that will be a hit for your kiddo.
So let’s get you the information you came here for (and thank you so much for being here)!
#1. Donald in Mathmagic Land

One of the most popular and entertaining educational films ever made by Walt Disney will surely have your little one engaged while learning math.
Psst, what’s the BEST part? They won’t even realize they’re learning. 🙂
Granted some kids love learning numbers while others have zero interest, this fantasy adventure with Donald Duck will surely peek their interest in some shape or form.

#3. The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Space!
If I could describe the ‘Cat in the Hat’ series in two words, I would say it’s whimsically FANTASTIC.
I loved these books when I was little and now my son loves them too. Now you can watch and learn from the ‘Cat in the Hat’ on your screen.
As the title suggests, your child will be learning about space in a fun manner with words that rhyme.
Occasionally, an educational song will break out that makes this show even more enjoyable and adds another level of fun to your child’s viewing experience.
Reviewed by Tristan, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic she states, “I recommend this film for ages 2 to 8. Young children will appreciate the rhyming lyrics and easy to follow story line. Parents can be assured their children are learning within a fun environment. The Cat in the Hat knows a lot about Space does not disappoint, as it is right in-line with the other Dr. Seuss stories.”

Liberty’s Kids is a captivating cartoon your child will watch and they won’t even realize they are learning!
It’s an educational resource that travels back in time which is exactly what your child will be exposed to while watching Libery’s Kids, our history.
Alice Ceballos (a top 50 reviewer on Amazon) explains, “This is an animated DVD that includes many stories including the Boston Tea Party, The First Fourth of July, The Constitution, and many more. It tells the story in a way that draws children in. The children are learning without even knowing it. It helps them ask questions and want to learn more. We then research on the computer or laptop more about what we were just watching and do projects related to that event.”
Your kiddo will learn about history in the making and gain knowledge about these pivotal points that have happened in the past.

#6. The Magic Schoolbus: The Complete Series
Growing up, my sister and I were completely obsessed with The Magic Schoolbus AND it’s still one of the hottest shows today for kids!
The Magic Schoolbus is an Emmy-Award winning flick that will teach your child all about science in an adventurous way.
Your child will go on a journey with the teacher Ms. Fizzle and her inquisitive students as their Magic Schoolbus takes them on exciting field trips through the human body, into space, back to prehistoric times, and everywhere else in between.
This is the longest running kid’s science series EVER which speaks volume of its popularity.
One reviewer, Ed, shares, “I’m glad I get to share this with my kids now. Grew up with Ms Frizzle and the gang, and, unlike many of the ‘on trend’ children’s shows, Magic School Bus is still relevant and educational, and it brings a smile to my little guy’s face each time he watches it. It’s so lovely that it leaves such an impression that as soon as I pick up the little guy each day to bring him home, the first thing out of his mouth is ‘school bus! school bus!”

Final Takeaway
Now more than ever during this time of COVID19, we can make screen time a positive experience for our kiddos so they are busy and entertained while at home.
Especially if you are trying to work from home AND teach your child virtually, popping in a show of educational value is an incredible tool at your disposal.
Us ‘parents’ can now feel OK when our child has a show on because they will be engaged having FUN watching something they can learn from.
Plus, we can work, sit with them, or do whatever it is we need to do for ourselves during that time.
Even if you aren’t a huge screen time parent that’s ok too. Educational TV shows for kids can teach them valuable life lessons in all sorts of subjects.
If there are other educational flicks you would recommend, questions you may have, a review you’d like to share, or anything you’d like to add that I did not cover in this post, please feel free to comment below.

Hello there! This is an amazing review you have got here. For me I think these movies are much more better than most of those so called “Educative cartoons”. Thanks for sharing this with me, I will go for the Donald in Mathmagic Land as the film will also introduce children to Pythagoras, the ancient Greek who was the father of mathematics and music theory.
Wonderful Joy! My son loves Donald Duck and finds the show Donald in Mathmagic Land very entertaining. Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂
What a truly remarkable website. Screen time for kids gets a bad rap. We can all agree that too much of it isn’t great. And if parents are being honest, we’re all guilty of parking kids in front of cartoons to get a few things marked off the to-do list (or just to get supper on the table!)… This really amazing indeed and i am glad i found it here.
Thanks Lucas! Absolutely, I’m guilty of it too when needing to get some to-do’s done or work but having an educational entertainment is a great option to turn to for our kiddos.
Since the kids love to watch TV, why not give them something educative to watch and thankfully, there has been many ways to censore some of those TV shows for our kids. It is actually very sad when things like that are not actually out in their right place and things are not done right with the TV and our kids have to watch the wrong things. Thank you for this lot.
Absolutely. It’s tough when our kids are exposed to shows that are negative rather than positive. I appreciate your feedack!
Hello Lindsey, so much can be put into making our kids better and certainly good tv program is one of the ways in which we can get the kids to grow well. My kids are really comfortable with playing with their tabs and I am not against it but I still want them to get to watch program that would develop them rather than play game all day.
Thanks for sharing Justin! I feel the same way about my son about the shows he engages with on his tablet. I appreciate the feedback. 🙂
Hello there, Thanks for sharing this awesome article I know it would be of great help to the public as it has been of help to me.Blippi is one of the best so far i usaully have the kids watch it so as to keep them occupied and also allow the learn a little as schools seem not to be resumming any time soon.
Thanks for sharing and I appreciate the kind words! My nephew loves Blippi too. He’s mesmerized when it comes on. 🙂
Hello there!
Thats an amazing article there with great observations. Truly, kids often get bored of learning when they dont get to see something interesting nor fun-filled backing up the lessons. They only enjoy there lessons when it has to do with something virtual and they assimilate faster that way. Will do well to get the entertaining educational films suggested in the article for my kids. I hope the enjoy and learn good lessons from them.
Thanks for sharing that.
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I’m glad you enjoyed the post and found the educational shows helpful for your kids.
I remember watching curious George and the magic school bus as a kid they were great shows.. Did you watch any of these as a kid? I watched dora the explore religiously. It was my favorite show as a kid. I think it is a very good idea to make a website to help kids with special abilities Do you happen to know/have a kid with special needs? You don’t have to answer if you aren’t comfortable
Hey Lex! Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. My nephew (who will be turning 5 soon) has cerebral palsy. He’s my sister’s little one and so precious. I have a 6 year old myself and both my son and newphew are best buds. 🙂 I love your idea about a future article topic too! I will look into this. Thanks for sharing.
Some great ideas here to keep children entertained but most importantly to learn. I used to play Blippi to my youngest and he used to love it and was the only way to get him to learn.
The cat in the Hat books are some of our favorites too as well as Dora. Dora the explorer is also in Spanish and we watch that sometimes as my wife is Spanish speaking and we want the children to learn English and Spanish together.
Thank you for the post as some great ideas all in one place!
Jim
Thanks for sharing Jim! I love to hear how the post included some of your top shows. Dora Dora is a great educational tool for those who are looking to learn multiple languages since it’s in english and spanish.
What an exciting way to teach kids through educative shows like these! One thing is clear nowadays, the olden day methods of teaching kids is no longer as efficient now with our ever developing world. Children need to be taught stuff in a way that will engage them and sharpen their minds to measure up to the present world. My nephew and niece all started speaking and reading at an alarmingly early age thanks to simple kids shows, I will share this with them as your listings look very diverse and intriguing.
Aw thank you so much! So glad you found the post helpful. I hope your niece and nephew will find a show they enjoy. 🙂
